Built in the 19th century , today it is a welcoming and relaxing urban oasis.
Our boutique hotel is within the historic centre of Jerez and within the walls of the ancient Almohad city. It is a privileged setting because it is next to the cathedral and adjoins the Casa del Abad.
It sits on a 19th century bourgeois house listed as a building of general interest and is protected by the city council. The hotel has two imposing façades overlooking the Plaza del Arroyo and a third that presides over the Cuesta de la Encarnación.
The Hotel Sidonia is in the Plaza del Arroyo square in Jerez de la Frontera, Cadiz. The three-storey former bourgeois house shares its location with the Plaza de la Encarnación, where you can find the old Aljamen mosque, and the Alcázar, situated in the traditional neighbourhood of San Salvador.
It is very close to the bustling medieval quarters of Santiago and San Miguel, a popular area for restaurants and shops.
The façades of the hotel have ancient construction elements that give the building a stately appearance. The arches and vaults from the Andalusian period, which have been preserved fossilised, suggest that this is where the prayer room of the aljamen mosque was located.
Because of all these peculiarities, the hotel's renovation project, which began in 2019, has respected the original construction and the essence of its architecture to the utmost, while providing it with all the comforts and luxuries of modern times.
The name of the Plaza del Arroyo comes from the stream of water that rose near the church of Carmen and flowed down the streets until it reached the square.
The square became one of the most elegant places in the city when the watercourse was covered, the new Collegiate Church was built and the unevenness between the square and the Cathedral was bridged with ramps and stairs.
These works took place between the 16th and 17th centuries, when bourgeois houses and palaces such as the Bertemati palace were also built.
